The look of Omarchy, on KDE Plasma 6 with CachyOS / Arch. Floating windows, one workspace per screen, Windows-style shortcuts, but with Omarchy's themes, a theme carousel, a clean top bar, a rounded dock, a screensaver and an AI assistant.

git clone https://github.com/UniteaGamedev/plasmarchy.git
cd plasmarchy
./install.sh
The installer:
sudo),~/.local/state/plasmarchy/backup),Afterwards you are logged in as before; nothing else needs a restart.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
--no-layout | Keeps your own panels instead of replacing them with the top bar and dock. A panel at the top of the screen still gets the Plasmarchy menu button, clock and status icons; all other panels stay as they are. You can add the Plasmarchy panels later with plasmarchy layout |
--no-packages | Installs no packages and doesn't ask for the sudo password for them. Use it when the packages are already there, e.g. for updates |
--no-login-screen | Leaves the login screen alone: no system-wide files, no sudo password for it. Without this option the login screen gets the theme's look and colors (only with Plasma Login Manager, the CachyOS default) |
The options can be combined, e.g. ./install.sh --no-layout --no-login-screen.
cd plasmarchy
git pull
./install.sh --no-packages
An update keeps your settings, your own themes, your dock and your changes to the top bar (e.g. tray icons set
to "Always shown"); the panels are only built on the first install. To rebuild them from scratch: plasmarchy layout.
If an update needs a new package, leave out --no-packages.
./uninstall.sh # restores the KDE settings from before the installation
./uninstall.sh --purge # also deletes your own themes and Plasmarchy settings
Installed packages (Papirus, Nerd Font, swayidle, ...) stay installed.
| Themes | 7 core themes: Osaka Jade, Tokyo Night, Catppuccin Latte, Everforest, Nord, Matte Black (from Omarchy) and Cachy Matrix (animated digital rain, with a greeting from Morpheus). Plus a theme catalog (Theme Studio → More themes) with more themes to install, e.g. Catppuccin, Rosé Pine, Gruvbox, Kanagawa, Ristretto, Neon Drift, Ember, Retro Arcade (an arcade cabinet: a CRT running an attract mode with title card, game demos and high scores). Any theme can be removed and comes back from the catalog |
| Menu | The Super (Windows) key opens an Omarchy-style menu: Apps, Learn, Toggle, Style, Capture, Setup, AI assistant, Software, About, System. Type to search all entries and apps (with KRunner as fallback), arrow keys to navigate |
| Shortcuts | Super+K shows every keyboard shortcut that is bound right now (read live from KDE, so it is always true), grouped, searchable; Enter runs one, "Change shortcuts …" opens KDE's settings |
| Animated wallpapers | Aurora, particles, Matrix-style code rain, an arcade cabinet (a CRT cycling through platformer, shooter, racing and puzzle demos) or a logo animation in the theme's colors. Every screen and the lock screen show the animation in step, so unlocking flows straight into the desktop. Your logo glows, builds itself up like in the screensaver, or stays hidden. Pauses automatically while a maximized or fullscreen window covers the desktop. Any theme can be animated |
| Seamless login | Optional, like Omarchy: plasmarchy login seamless on logs you in automatically into a locked session. You type your password once, on the lock screen in the theme's look, while the desktop loads behind it; the first unlock also opens KDE Wallet (like a normal login), later unlocks only unlock the screen. off brings the login screen back |
| Boot screen | Optional, like Omarchy: plasmarchy boot splash on (or the switch in the Plasmarchy settings) shows PLASMARCHY on black, in the pixel lettering and the green (#A8CD76) of the Omarchy logo, while the system starts. Another color: plasmarchy boot splash color #RRGGBB or the field in the settings. With an encrypted disk, the password is typed there too. Needs Plymouth; asks for the admin password once and rebuilds the boot image. off brings back the previous boot screen |
| Top bar status | Top right, left to right: AI assistant, reminders, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, volume, brightness, battery, notifications, and the arrow menu with the icons of apps (Steam, OBS, Discord, ...: each goes there the first time it shows up). To keep one in the bar: right click the arrow, "Configure System Tray", set it to "Always shown"; it then sits left of the arrow. Brightness is Plasmarchy's own menu (screen, keyboard backlight, night light) without KDE's theme switch, which would replace the Plasmarchy theme. Every login starts with an empty desktop, windows from the last session don't reopen |
| Theme switcher | Carousel with slanted previews (←/→, Enter). Switches the colors of all apps, the panel, window borders, icons (Papirus with a matching folder color), wallpaper, lock screen, login screen and terminal in ~0.3 s |
| Theme Studio | Create, edit and delete your own themes: all 25 colors with a color picker, light/dark, folder color, your own wallpapers, live preview. Built-in themes are read-only: apply them, or duplicate one to customize it |
| Top bar | Slim, clock in JetBrainsMono Nerd Font, all icons monochrome in the theme color |
| Music player | Top left, with audio wave, title and controls. Shows and controls whatever plays, in any app: Spotify, YouTube Music in the browser, VLC and every other player (MPRIS). Title and controls appear while something plays |
| Dock | Floating, rounded, glass effect, dodges windows |
| AI assistant | Robot icon in the top bar (or Super+A, like Omarchy): chat with the connected AI: Claude Code (uses your subscription), Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI or a local model (Ollama), detected automatically. Fallback chain: if an AI hits its limit, is signed out or can't be reached, the next one answers automatically, with a clear notice. Optionally the AI may open apps and change the theme and volume |
| Dictation | Super+Shift+Space (configurable): speak, press it again, and the text appears where the cursor is, in any app. Off until you switch it on in the assistant settings: one click downloads the recognizer (NVIDIA Parakeet, ~550 MB, runs on the CPU) and KDE asks once whether dictation may type into your windows (its remote control permission, keyboard only; withdrawn again with Disable). The microphone is only open while dictating; recognition runs locally |
| Settings page | In the assistant (menu → Settings): preferred AI and fallback order, local model, desktop actions, limit alerts, dictation on/off, hotkey, microphone with level test |
| Usage limits | Claude's 5-hour and weekly limits as bars in the assistant; desktop notification when 20 % and 5 % are left (configurable) |
| Popups | Custom Plasma style: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, volume, calendar and notifications with a border in the theme's accent color |
| Settings | System Settings → Appearance → Plasmarchy: theme, own wallpaper for every theme, animations and logo, menu style (Plasmarchy menu or classic KDE menu), fonts, music player, hot corner, screensaver |
| Animations | Zoom on open/close, "magic lamp" on minimize, blur; window corners are rounded by KWin itself |
| Picture in picture | Videos in picture in picture (YouTube in Brave, Chrome, Firefox …) stay on top of every window, even when you click another one |
| Screensaver | Like Omarchy's: your logo animated with random terminaltexteffects in a fullscreen terminal, in theme colors; doesn't start during videos/games |
| Branding | One logo for screensaver and animated wallpapers: the Plasmarchy logo (default, the pixel lettering of the boot screen), a text, an image (SVG/PNG) or hand-edited ASCII art in ~/.config/plasmarchy/branding/ (Menu → Style, or plasmarchy branding) |
| Tidy System Settings | Pages Plasmarchy controls (Global Theme, Colors, Plasma Style, Window Decorations, Icons, KDE's Quick Settings) are hidden there |
The interface follows the system language. Translations for 20 languages are included (missing languages fall back to English).

Configuration in ~/.config/plasmarchy/: your own themes (themes/), screensaver (screensaver.conf),
assistant, limit alerts and dictation (assistant.conf), your own scripts run on theme switches
(hooks.d/, they get the theme name as argument).
A theme is a folder ~/.config/plasmarchy/themes/<name>/ with:
colors.toml: Omarchy format (mode, accent, background, foreground, …)kde.conf: NAME="Display name" and FOLDER_COLOR=teal (Papirus folder color)backgrounds/ with images and/or backgrounds.list with paths to imageskde.conf: ANIMATION=aurora|particles|rain|logo|arcade (animated wallpaper),
ANIMATION_COLORS="cyan blue magenta" (palette colors the animation uses) and
GREETING_FROM, GREETING_TITLE, GREETING_TEXT (a notification when switching to the theme)To share a theme, add it to extra-themes/ with a pull request and run python3 tools/build_theme_index.py.
English is the source language. Translations live in lib/locale/<lang>.json as
{"English text": "Translation"}, shared by the scripts, the QML apps and the widget (the installer
compiles them into gettext catalogs for the widgets). Regional variants (pt_BR.json, zh_TW.json) build on the
general language. To add a language: copy de.json to <lang>.json, translate the values, then run
python3 tools/i18n.py check <lang> (finds missing entries) and python3 tools/i18n.py sync (menu entries).
KDE Plasma 6 on CachyOS or Arch, Wayland session recommended (the automatic screensaver needs it). The installer
fetches papirus-icon-theme, ttf-jetbrains-mono-nerd, swayidle, alacritty, kdialog, imagemagick,
qt6-declarative, qt6-imageformats, kimageformats, python-dbus (for Panel Colorizer), plus the Plasma widget
Panel Colorizer (v8.0.0).
Optional: the themed login screen needs Plasma Login Manager, the boot screen needs Plymouth.
| Distribution | CachyOS (October 2026), Limine bootloader |
| Desktop | KDE Plasma 6.8.0, KDE Frameworks 6.31, Qt 6.12, Wayland |
| Login | Plasma Login Manager 6.8.0 |
| Boot screen | Plymouth 26.134 |
Parts of Plasmarchy (the top bar's status icons, the tray, the brightness menu) use Plasma interfaces that can change between Plasma versions. On other versions or distributions most things should work, but some may not; issues are welcome.
