I've installed https://getaurora.dev/en/, another atomic Linux distro, for a non technical user and find it really good. I've read arguments that its architecture was better than kalpa, but I don't find it back and I have no sufficient knowledge or experience of both to have an opinion.

I can echo problems with Mint. Currently using https://getaurora.dev which is basically fedora + kde but curated by people that actually care. So codecs are preinstalled, and other sensible defaults out of the box which makes sense as its in the same family as bazzite (without the gaming focus).

I'm an https://getaurora.dev user and I agree uBlue is awesome. I'd like to create a custom image too, but it doesn't seem quite as easy as you say: https://youtube.com/watch?v=IxBl11Zmq5w

> So, if you want to start using linux, but what I just describes turns your stomach. If you want something that ‘just works.’ – Give Bluefin a try. I disagree, I don't think Gnome is a good default experience for people switching to Linux (especially if they're coming from Windows). Gnome is also…

Get a distro with atomic updates, preferably an immutable one like Aurora[1]. Updates are automated and can't break your system. And in the rare event something does happen, you can easily boot the previous version right from the boot menu, no need for any scary commands or technical intervention.…

Ubuntu has unfortunately become the Windows of the Linux world - and I don't mean that in a good way. Unless you want to be the perpetual IT support for your parents, I would recommend getting a user-friendly immutable/atomic distro, like Aurora[1]. Aurora uses KDE, which most Windows users would…

Unfortunately you tried the worst possible distro out of them all - Ubuntu is infamous for being the Windows of the Linux world (for all the wrong reasons), and Canonical is getting worse every year. Still nowhere as bad as Microsoft, but they're getting there. I would highly recommend using a sane…

I would agree that immutable atomic linux desktop is the future. I would go broader than Bazzite and say you can pick from whole range of similar flavors that might fit you a bit better https://universal-blue.org/ for example https://getaurora.dev/en is KDE. It's worth saying that one advantage of…

While not mentioned in the post, there is a KDE flavor of the same project called Aurora/kinoite. While it doesn't get the LTS treatment (IMO it would have been the better pick over Bluefin), it's still viable. https://github.com/ublue-os/aurora https://getaurora.dev/

Secure Boot

Secure Boot is supported by default on our systems, providing an additional layer of security. After the first installation, you will be prompted to enroll the secure boot key in the BIOS.

Enter the password universalblue when prompted to enroll our key.

If this step is not completed during the initial setup, you can manually enroll the key by running the following command in the terminal:

ujust enroll-secure-boot-key

Secure boot is supported with our custom key. The pub key can be found in the root of the akmods repository here. If you'd like to enroll this key prior to installation or rebase, download the key and run the following:

sudo mokutil --timeout -1
sudo mokutil --import public_key.der
