JShred is a simple Java utility for securely cleaning up files. It can shred an individual file by overwriting its contents multiple times before deleting it, or scan a directory to find and remove duplicate files. It also recognizes copied filenames, keeps the cleanest name, and shows progress during large deduplication jobs through a clear menu.

Currently this project is experimental. The ability to use cryptographically secure random bytes as well as enhanced protections for SSDs are being worked on. At this current state it is best protected against traditional Hard Drives and not Solid State drives.
