Open Scenarios is part of the OpenRCT2 asset replacement project, seeking to make a fully featured freely available version of the game. The aim of this subproject is to create a new gameplay campaign to be officially bundled with OpenRCT2, made up of user submitted scenarios.
Development of the OpenScenarios campaign project will take place in soft phases:
Phase 1: Contributors will brainstorm and refine a list of potential design concepts for scenarios to fill the campaign, deciding on objectives, themes, or any other design points. At any point, contributors may propose amendment, replacement, or removal of campaign slots if they are deemed unsatisfactory.
Phase 2: Individual contributors will create scenario submissions which meet the criteria of the scenario concepts. Contributors may solicit feedback and playtesting at will.
Phase 3: Once a decent number of candidate scenarios have been submitted, contributors will schedule focus time to evaluate and critique the candidates. Feedback and refinement will continue until either a clear favorite submission has been determined, or weaker submissions have been ruled out to leave only one or two preferred options.
Phase 4: Selected or finalist scenarios will be moved to the /campaign subdirectory in this repo. Refinement may continue on selected scenarios. During this time, contributors may propose changes to any scenario, including those created by other contributors, via pull request.
Phase 5: The final scenario for each campaign slot will be decided on, if multiple finalist candidates still exist. After all campaign slots have reached this stage, the campaign will be considered complete and added as an official campaign bundled with OpenRCT2.
Scenario submissions which are rejected at any point may be redesigned to fit another campaign slot, and start over from Phase 2.
For those unfamiliar with Github, we recommend sending your scenario's .park file to @Kyphii via Discord DM. Otherwise, contributors may submit scenarios for consideration via pull request, with the desired .park files added to the /submissions subdirectory.
Scenario submissions should include, for each included scenario:
Finished scenarios may be submitted in bulk. Please submit any scenarios which are still work-in-progress as individual pull requests.
In order to maintain a consistently high level of quality, the following guidelines will be enforced for candidate scenarios. Scenarios submitted via pull request must meet these specifications.
.park files.openscenarios-{campaign slot}-{author}-{scenario-title}.park (All lowercase)
Example: openscenarios-01-kyphii-dawn-meadows.park
